Different Types of Skin and How to Care for Them

Skincare is something you need to incorporate into your daily routine. Caring for your skin will prevent early signs of aging, and it will also make you feel confident about yourself. There are different skin types, and you need to know which one you have. It will determine the best skin care products to use and which ones to avoid, as there are ingredients ideal for each type of skin. Below is a guide on the different types of skin and how to properly care for them.

Normal skin

Normal skin is the easiest to care for since it usually has no adverse reactions to new products or seasonal changes. For example, if you have minimal wrinkles or fine lines, and your skin is firm without the need to blot oil or moisturize often, you probably have normal skin. Since it usually does not react negatively to different products, you will be free to explore various options until you find one perfect for you.

Dry skin

If your skin lacks oil, you might have dry skin. Some of its signs are cracks, itchiness, sensitivity, and flakiness. Since dry skin is also sensitive, don’t use products with harsh ingredients. Instead, use lots of moisturizers, and apply several times a day to keep your skin hydrated. Also, consider using an air humidifier at home to keep the place moist, which is good for dry skin.

Oily skin

It’s easy to tell if you have this skin type as your face will always look oily. You may also find yourself using blotting papers throughout the day. The products that you apply may also not hold for long because of the oiliness of your skin. Avoid products that have alcohol and oil if you have this type of skin. Most skincare products will tell you what type of skin they are ideal for, so be sure to check that information. For instance, SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF is a skincare product recommended for those with oily, combination, and normal skin. It helps repair damage from the cellular level giving the skin a radiant and youthful appearance.

Combination skin

As the term suggests, you have combination skin if some parts are dry or normal, while others are oily. For example, the T-zone often gets oily, while again, the other parts are normal or dry. Avoid products with ingredients not recommended for dry and oily skin. Treat oily areas the same way you will treat oily skin and the dry areas the same way you will treat dry skin. As mentioned, some products are ideal for combination skin, which is usually written in the packaging.

Sensitive skin

Environmental factors, allergies, and genetics may cause the skin to be sensitive. Some signs include irritation, flakes, stinging sensation when using skincare products, bumps, rashes, and skin flushes. Also, avoid using products with alcohol, fragrance, and other harsh ingredients. Instead, look for those with anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

If you want to ensure what type of skin you have and the best way to care for it, you may consult a dermatologist. Also, be sure to use products made for your skin type. Stop their use immediately if you experience any adverse reactions.
